DISCLAIMER:
Some or most of you will think that I am being overly negative, I am not! I am being pragmatic. If you have ever spend any quality time sleeping, literally, on a busy inner-city sidewalk (in my case downtown Los Angeles) and getting kicked in the head while sleeping, you start to develop a more finely tuned level of consciousness. Even during a strong national economy, life on the streets can by cruel and punishing, but try to imagine life now in our currently snafu(ed) economic environment.
This could be you here, thank God that it is not. In spite of all of the -so called- Christian programs here, they are only there for the government subsidies and donations so that they can develop the size of their non-profit (501 C III) endowments. If or when they actually do help someone to achieve stable/permanent housing and/or employment, they are only scratching the surface. Then they pat themselves on the back and get positive media attention.
Case in point; Los Angeles county’s “Project 50”, they yet to get 50 people, but hey, they got all of that wonderful publicity, they are doing something great and positive, they are so proud of their great achievement. Well, what about the remaining 89,950 needy people who still have to suffer and be persecuted by the LAPD, Red shirts and the wealthy(greedy) developers; and special interest groups while the City of Los Angeles wages its war AGAINST the inner-city poor (read that homeless)? Those 50 people still had to QUALIFY for the program (Project 50). You don’t empty a bucket of water by removing 50 drops of water! Shame on them! Satan is alive and well in Los Angeles.
Homeless people are still human beings who deserve honor, dignity and respect, not being kicked in their sleep, sneered at, spit upon, set on fire (that really happened here in L.A.), feared or treated like something that was accidentally stepped in (i. e. dog mess). Where is that so-called Christian charity, love and compassion that they are always boasting about. They make me ashamed for being a Christian.
While most of you are at home, in your nice warm beds, there is a multitude of fellow human beings that have to sleep on sidewalks, doorways, next to bushes and in alleyways, and those are the good spots. When a homeless person dies, so what, who cares? We care, and God cares. Meanwhile we get sick, abused by the system and swept under the rug.
It is important to note that fact that a increasing number of homeless adults are becoming registered voters and like me, are active participants in the elections. I now scrutinize all city and county measures put on the ballot. I still have SOME rights, praise God.
